I loved this one. It drives me crazy to see my oldest son take an HOUR to write a paragraph, and occasionally the syntax is a real nightmare, but I also try to let him be and I applaud his efforts. It's amazing when I see his voice, and his distinct narrative rhythm and style, coming out. The brain needs this process. Sigh. I wish more people understood the value of writing through and toward understanding,
The point is totally the process, not the product, and when the product rewards, awesome (it's honestly, in part why I do THIS instead of trying to make everything a Slate pitch). It's a transparent learning process through writing. I am planning to do some writing work with my kid this summer but I need to frame the practice as self-discovery. It's okay for it to be slow! Kids are all about efficiency, even when young. Words take time! That guy in The Plague who writes the same sentence over and over?
